Title: The human microbiome is not an island.

  • Host-associated and environmental microbiomes are connected. Like other hosts, humans are not an island unto themselves, but are constantly interacting with the natural environment including plants and animals, ranging from the food they eat to the company they keep.
  • Due to a number of factors, such as the modern diet, city-life and antibiotic use, this interaction has been disrupted.
  • Use ecological principles to optimize human health.
